Dennis Keith Rhoades, 74 of Flint Hill, Virginia died March 19, 2019 at his home. Dennis was born to Charles and Madeline Rhoades in Burbank, California on August 1, 1944.
He married the love of his life, Cheryl Miller Rhoades.
He is survived by his step-daughter, Andrie Leiser Rovenolt (Gerald “Jerry”) of Maryland; grandchildren, Adam Lee Rovenolt and Aaron Lee Rovenolt of Maryland;
and nephew, Craig Dixon (Yolanda) of California.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Charal and Joe Slowey; nephew, Michael “Mitch” Weber; and step-son William Clifford Leiser, III.
Dennis had many interests including astronomy, classic literature, classical music, philosophy and his dog (“little buddy”), Dodger. He attended the University of California and the University of Wyoming where he majored in American Studies and minored in English Literature.
He worked for the US Army and was a proud Vietnam veteran. He held numerous meaningful positions with our government including Veterans Employment Specialist, National Economic Director, Executive Director of Veterans Service Organization, Chief Fields Operator, Appointed Executive Director of Veterans Federal Coordinating Committee by the White House Press Secretary, Executive Director for Dispersment of Agent Orange fund.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Flint Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Jessie Colwell. A reception celebrating the life of Dennis Rhoades will take place following the service at the family home in Flint Hill, Virginia.
