Helen Louise Housel Hoffman Winter, 92 of Warrenton, VA passed away on June 24, 2013 at the Blue Ridge Christian Home.

Born June 7, 1921 in Williamsport, PA, Helen graduated from Williamsport High School in 1939 and Linden Hall, Lititz, PA in 1941. She then served in the U. S. Navy "WAVES" during World War II stationed in New York City. After the war she worked for the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission in Washington, DC.

She married Francis W. Hoffman in 1951 after which they moved to Warrenton. Mr. Hoffman died in 1972. Helen served Fauquier County Social Services as Food Stamp director and as Magistrate for Fauquier County. She was also the secretary at Warrenton Presbyterian Church of which she was a member. Helen enjoyed playing bridge up until her recent illness.

She is survived by her husband Rev. J. Richard Winter to whom she was married in 1981; her children and the spouses- Christine Hoffman Sinclair and John H. Sinclair of Warrenton, John Morris Hoffman of Warsaw, VA and Suzanne W. Hoffman Browning and Dale S. Browning of Palmyra, VA; five stepchildren- Patricia Jo Wunz, John Day, OR, Gail Ann Winter, Atlanta, GA, Theodore G. Winter, Richmond, VA, Timothy M. Winter, Steamboat Springs, CO and Thomas C. Winter, Virginia Beach, VA and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Thursday at Moser Funeral Home, Warrenton. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 28 at 2:00 PM at the Warrenton Presbyterian Church. Rev. Carl Schmahl and Rev. Carrie Evans will officiate. Interment will follow at the Warrenton Cemetery.
