Herman, the son of Lewis M. and Betty Bacle Ferris passed away at his home in West View Ridge, Haines City, FL on March 14th, 2018 at the age of 79. Herman was married to Joyce Nicholson Ferris on July 13, 1960. To this union was born two sons, Robert Ferris and Lewis Ferris.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce ‘Joy’ Nicholson Ferris; 2 sons, Robert L. Ferris & his wife, Carol of Boca Raton, FL and Lewis N. Ferris & his wife, Ileen of Highland Ranch, CO; 4 grandchildren, Shannon Holder, and Ashley, Mason & Haley Ferris; 3 great grandchildren, Elisabeth, Ava & Eli Holder; 4 sisters, Jean Hassell & her husband, Lefty, Jo Payne, Linda Hamilton & her husband, Aubrey and Alice Boyte & her husband, Dennis; and brother, Ralph Ferris.
Proceding him in death were his parents, a brother Travis Ferris and a brother-in-law, Charles Nicholson.
Herman served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Vint Hill Farms Army Post. As a Virginia resident, he was a member of the Cedar Run Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Warrenton Volunteer Rescue Squad. Herman worked for VDOT and retired from the Fairfax Water Authority in 1994. Upon retirement, Herman and Joy entertained family and friends while traveling in many parts of the United States. Herman had many interests and hobbies, including wood carving, and he generously shared his special carvings with everyone. He loved gardening, and always had a special interest in Lilies and Iris. He loved to dig and collect old bottles. Herman had a special love for the Louisiana State University sports teams, especially the baseball team.
Herman was a member of the Amelia Trinity Methodist Church in Amelia, VA. The Celebration of his Life will be held at Moser Funeral Home, 233 Broadview Ave., Warrenton, VA on Saturday, June 2nd at 11 am.
