Margaret Cunningham Alvis, 97, of Marshall, VA died on February 1, 2010 at Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton after a short illness. Mrs. Alvis was born in Richmond on April 9, 1912, a daughter of Sidney and Clara Cunningham. She had been a resident of Hampton for 40 years before moving to Woodbridge where she lived for 20 years. In January 2002, she moved to Fauquier County and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Warrenton. She taught in parochial schools including the fourth grade at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea in Hampton. Her husband, John Carveth Alvis, Jr. preceded her in death on February 1, 1974.
She is survived by a daughter, Judith A. Sloan of Marshall, VA and a son, John Sidney Alvis of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are three grandsons; James Paul Bailey III of Stafford, Patrick Lonial Bailey of Fredericksburg, Philip John Bailey of Stafford, and sixteen great grandchildren. Services at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions are incomplete. Inurnment Hampton Veterans Memorial Gardens, Hampton VA.
