John Paul Durham, age 87, Remington, VA, died April 24, 2010 at Culpeper Regional Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born July 12, 1922, in Calistoga, CA to the late John Monroe Durham and Ida Magdalena Battreall Durham. John served in the Army and was a World War II veteran receiving 7 Bronze Stars during his service in the Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, and Sicilian Roma-Arno Campaigns. He was united in marriage to Dessie Hays Durham on July 2, 1954, in Miami, OK.  
John resided in Springfield, MO until moving to Florida in 1958.  His career with the Sperry & Hutchinson Co brought the family from Florida to Virginia were he retired in 1981.  John and Dessie returned to Springfield, MO were they resided until their move to Remington, VA in 2008. 
John was a Mason and a Shiner for over 50 years.  He was greatly involved with the American Civil Defense Association in Florida and was an avid model railroader in his spare time.
John is survived by his wife Dessie H. Durham, Remington, VA, two daughters Judith A. Miller, Old Town, FL, Debra L. Durham, Remington, VA; three granddaughters, Jackie Snyder, Old Town, FL, Cindy Miller, Springfield, MO, Tammy Willbanks, Eastsound, WA; nine great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for John P. Durham will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 3, 2010, at Culpeper National Cemetery, 305 U.S. Avenue, Culpeper, VA.  Pastor Charles Stacy, Remington United Methodist Church, will officiate.  Relatives and friends are also welcome at Moser Funeral Home, 233 Broadview Avenue, Warrenton, VA, on Sunday, May 2, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  A Masonic service will be held at 4:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
