Cathryn W. Knuepfer, 93, of Washington, VA died Monday, May 31, 2010 at Fauquier Hospital. She was born in Marysville, PA on February 11, 1917 to Jasper Franklin and Cleo Montgomery Wiggins. She was the oldest of eight children; one brother and three sisters predecease her.
Mrs. Knuepfer was a Communications Officer in the U.S. Navy in San Francisco where she met her husband, they were married in Vienna Austria in October, 1950. During his career they lived overseas and traveled extensively. They made their home in Washington, VA where Mrs. Knuepfer was a Director for the Rappahannock County Historical Society, a librarian and involved with genealogical research. For many years, she was a member and officer of the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was active with the Red Cross, various garden clubs as well as serving as a Docent in Colonial Williamsburg. She was also a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington, VA.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Colonel Dieter C. Knuepfer, USA (Ret.) a daughter, Karen Knuepfer and her partner Jeff Osman of York, PA, two brothers and one sister residing in the Phoenix, AZ area. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A funeral service was held on Friday, June 4, 2010 at 3:00 PM in the Trinity Episcopal Church 379 Gay St. Washington, VA. Interment St. Paul’s Cemetery, Woodville, VA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church or the Rappahannock Historical Society, P.O. Box 261 Washington, VA 22747.
