Norman Hutton Wampler, Lt. Col. USA (Ret.) 88 of Warrenton, VA died on July 12, 2010 at the Culpeper Regional Hospital.

He was born November 15, 1921 in Penn Laird, VA a son of the late Leonard S. Wampler and Thelma Jane Hutton Wampler.  He grew up in Warrenton, VA, graduated from Warrenton High School and worked with his father in the family Southern States Feed Store business.

He began his 33-year career in the US Army in 1943 completing basic training at Camp Pickett, VA then attended Officer Candidate School at Camp Barkely, Texas where he was commissioned in November 1943.  In World War II, Norman served in the European Theater of Operations in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany.  From 1950 to 1951, he served in Korea with the 27th Infantry Regiment of the 25th Division.  He was then assigned to Vietnam with the U. S. Military Assistance Command. He retired in 1975 as the deputy commander of the Army Garrison at Fort Indiantown Gap, PA.  His awards include the Bronze Star with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal and decorations from Korea and Vietnam.

After retirement, he sold real estate in Florida and Warrrenton.  He was a member of the John D. Sudduth American Legion Post #72 and attended the Warrenton Baptist Church where he sang in the choir.  Norman was well-read and enjoyed sports including baseball, football and golf.

He is survived by his wife- Juliet C. Wampler; three daughters- Sherrie Miller, Warrenton, Deborah Mizota, Kaneohe, HI, and Elizabeth Crist, Haymarket; six grandchildren- Gaynell Kuck, Todd Miller, David Mizota, April Crist, Lindsey Todd, and Danielle Crist; four great grandchildren- Kevin Kuck, Eli Miller, Peyton Todd, and Griffin Strait.
He was predeceased by his brother, Leonard F. Wampler, Jr. and a son-in-law, John P. Miller.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Thursday at Moser Funeral Home, Warrenton.  Funeral services will be held Friday, July 16 at 11:00 AM at the Warrenton Baptist Church.  Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 3:00 PM at Arlington National Cemetery.
