Paul A. Poling of Amissville, VA answered the final call as a band of angels carried him home on July 13, 2010.  He was 87 years old.  He was supported and surrounded by his loving family at home after a long battle with leukemia.
He was born on January 12, 1923 in Washington, DC a son of the late Plesant and Laura Poling.  He was married to Gertrude Lillard on Sept. 11, 1942.  
During World War II he served in the US Navy aboard the Destroyer Escort USS Baron.  Later he served aboard the USS Missouri during the Korean Conflict. He was a charter member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars #9274 in Falls Church.

Paul was an advocate for the fire and rescue service and was a volunteer fireman since 1938.  He was a life member of McLean Fire Company #1 and a former Chief of Jefferson Company #18 both in Fairfax County.  He was also a life member, former chief, President and Director for the Amissville Volunteer Fire Co. and was a member of the Fire Chiefs of Virginia and the Virginia State Fireman’s Association.
He was a member of Amissville United Methodist Church where he was a former chairman of the Administrative Board.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years- Gertrude Poling; two daughters and their husbands- Judie and Rick Graham and Cheryl and Tom Taylor; brother Harold A. “Red” Poling, Pacific Grove, CA; sister- Eleanor E. Schoen, Avalon, NJ; grandchildren and their spouses- Ritchie and Michelle Graham, Larry Graham, Terry and Lisa Graham, Emily and Chris Roop and Brian and Alex Taylor; great grandchildren- Brandon, Alyssa, Ryan, Dalton and Austin Graham and Jordan Russell.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 21 from 3-5 & 7-9 PM at Moser Funeral Home, Warrenton, VA.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 22 at 12:00 Noon at the Fauquier High School Auditorium.  Interment at the Amissville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
